Gardening

Gardening has played a large part in our school life over the past few years, culminating in being crowned as the Best School Garden in the East Midlands in Bloom Competition 2015. Regular afternoon sessions allow groups of children to take part in gardening activities on the allotment (handily placed next to the school field), and we hold an after-school gardening club on Mondays and Thursdays between February and November.

Gardening is also used within the curriculum such as Science experiments on plants, writing about gardening related topics in Literacy, and cooking and tasting of home-grown foods from the allotment to name just a few.

On Older People's Day 2008 our school allotment was featured on BBC Breakfast as part of our intergenerational project. Click here to be taken to the BBC website to see the short film. We made it nationally again when a report on our gardening was featured in The Sunday Times on 14th March 2016 - read the article
